Koedal in Water

The koedal to me represents my connection back to culture. It wasn’t until I was 25 years old that I was told my family totem was the koedal (crocodile). Unknowingly telling people for years that my totem was the hammerhead shark made me initially feel ashamed. Not knowing who I was or where I was from. I spent many of my younger years ashamed of who I was. After spending many years around strong Indigenous men and women I’ve realised how lucky I am. How lucky am I to pass on this 60,000 year old culture that is so rich with tradition. Now I spend time where I can learning more about myself and my people since my connection to my culture was cut many years ago.
