This piece speaks about the connection our people have between generations and to our land. Our culture is one that binds us to our being. Our culture is maternal in a way. It is supporting, nurturing, and guiding our people constantly.
 
Here we see two warriors sailing across the ocean in search of new land and new beginings. They both are wearing traditional Dhoeri’s (head dress) which were worn by our warriors in times of battle and today in ceremony. Beneath the warriors we see sea life. Food sources and totems of the Torres Strait People. These totems are what guide and teach us through life. They are what will look after us in the next life.
 
Filling the background behind the warriors we see a woven pattern. To me this is an integral part of this piece as it represents connection through time. The first leave used when weaving baskets or other things is still connected to the last. By being connected to each other it makes the bond strong and unbreakable. This connection to me is the perfect symbol of our Torres Strait Island culture. Unbroken and resilient.
